Awards and Honors:

  • Friedrichsburg received the Summerfield G. Roberts award for 2012. 
  • Inside the Texas Revolution received the Summerfield G. Roberts award (2022), the Western History Association Nancy Award (2023), and the Texas Philosophical Association Award (for the best book on Texas history) for 2023.
  • In the spring of 2016, I was voted a fellow of the Texas Institute of Letters.
  • My article, “Conrad Caspar Rordorf: Art, Murder, and Intrigue,” won the 2020 H. Bailey Carroll Award for the best article in the Southwestern Historical Quarterly for 2019.
  • My podcast, “Vietnam on Tape” produced in collaboration with the Bob Bullock Museum of Texas History, Austin, Texas, as part of their series, “Texas History online.” won the TAMMIE award from the Texas Association of Museums and won the National Gold MUSE Award in the Podcast category for the best podcast produced by a museum in the United States for the year 2019.
  • Inside the Texas Revolution; The Enigmatic Memoir of Herman Ehrenberg received numerous awards including the Summerfield G. Robertson award and the Texas Philosophical Society award for 2022.

I am currently working on a comprehensive history of the Society for the Protection of German Emigrants in Texas.
